Prompt: What would the world be like if the sun was always shining and there was no night?

An oasis! A rare sight indeed. The tall leafy trees provided much sought after shade by the edge of the pool. I dropped from the back of my companion and proceeded to make my way towards the water.

A fine beast she was, never doubted me a single time as I took us on this long journey for the acquisition of knowledge. Ancient knowledge on the starbound race of dieties. Legend says they were once like us, born of the Earth, yet their civilization flourished. I find it hard to believe anything could thrive on these lands, except perhaps the lizard men—they adored the harsh sun, worshipped it even.

At that moment as I took my last sip of water and filled my flasks, the thought downed on me. “Why was this watering hole uninhabited?” My question was soon answered. I looked about and dozens of scaly mounds peppered with sand. I knew better than to wait around until they woke, and yet my attention was caught by a strange shape jutting from the ground. A bank of knowledge! These contraptions held vast amounts of information despite their size and if I could bring it to the capital we may be able to decipher the data held inside.

The only real problem was extracting it from this place without waking the dumb beasts. All I could do was try my luck at sneaking past them. My mount waited patiently a little ways away. I could hear them breath at my feet as I knelt dawn and picked up the device. It fit perfectly in my hand.

I made my way towards her only to trip over a tail that swung at me out of nowhere. The sound woke several of them, as far as I could tell from the ground. I felt a familiar set of teeth pull me onto my feet. The reptiles were still groggy and we were able to get away without so much a scratch but that groginess would quickly subside and be replaced with bloodlust. This area is no longer safe, and I feel sorry far any neighbouring camps or villages.

Either way I got what I came for, my flasks are full, my thirst sated. So I make my way home with knowledge in hand. I hope this aids us in our goal to join the starbound one day, and leave this scorched Earth for good.
